ArtfulBits site columns for Microsoft SharePoint - new functionality for your lists.

Recently ArtfulBits has developed a number of components for Microsoft SharePoint including Follow-Up Column, Image Upload Column, Discussion Column, Parent Selector Column and Cross-Site Lookup Column.
Image Upload Column Functionality
ArtfulBits Image Upload Column adds some useful features to SharePoint Site Columns. This tool is designed to upload and display images for list item. It allows selecting a picture in file browsing dialog, uploading and displaying it in the list view. This component provides quick mechanism of manipulating picture upload, edit and delete actions. It is possible to setup filtering using predefined or custom extensions.
Image Upload Special Settings allow indicating types of graphic files that may be chosen: *.gif, *.jpg, *.bmp, *.png, *.jpeg, *.jpe or it is possible to write some additional file types not specified in the given list for example *.pict or *.iso.
Image Upload Column may be applied to Windows SharePoint Services (WSS) 3.0 and Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS) 2007. For both of the products the following functions are provided:
- Direct image uploading
- Image description support (used as alternative text for the picture)
- File extensions filtering (predefined and custom extensions supported)
- Images stored in separate internal list sub-folder (no conflict with attachments)
- Language pack support
ArtfulBits Image Upload Column had a number of advantages on the comparison with standard Hyperlink or Picture Column available in SharePoint by default. A standard column is intended to display only a hyperlink to a Web page or display a picture from the Web by typing URL of the image already existing on the site. So it is not possible to browse and upload an image immediately from the computer. In many cases it is not comfortable. In order to associate images with some item in a list in MOOS 2007 user should create the separate picture list and then set the URL of certain image to picture column via the modal dialog.
ArtfulBits Image Upload Column facilitates process of adding images, gives more functionality and flexibility. It allows the user to browse their local computer for the necessary images or some new photos. Once the image is selected, column will automatically upload the image and link it to the item.
